Dedicated to the outstanding mathematician, teacher, engineer-designer, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine, laureate of many state and scientific awards - Alexei Pogorelov. The research of the scientist made it possible to complete the development of the theory of complete irregular convex surfaces and laid the foundation for the nonlinear geometric theory of shells - the most common elements of modern constructions. Oleksiy Pogorelov is the author of dozens of monographs and textbooks (in particular, the original school textbook on geometry and university textbooks on analytic and differential geometry), most of which are translated into English.
On the obverse there is a coin: on the top there is the Small State Emblem of Ukraine, on both sides of which are the inscriptions: NATIONAL (on the left), BANK OF UKRAINE (on the right); in the center on a mirror background - a stylized composition: a helicoid (screw surface) is depicted, against which the polygonal approximation of the curve and the face value is 2, underneath the inscription ГРИВНІ; Coin issue year - 2019 (left), logo of the Banknote-Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (right).
On the reverse of the coin on a mirrored background is a portrait of Alexei Pogorelov, to the left of which is an abstract figure symbolizing topological studies of mathematics in geometry, and the inscriptions: OLEXIY / POGORELOV / 1919 - 2002.
