The company was founded in 1907. From 1876 the Russian Potanin began to explore the area of Mongolia, which was almost unknown to western visitors. That was the beginning of a strong, also economic Russian influence in the region. According to tradition, the West Mongolian aimak are descendants of an army that Manghu-Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan, sent to the west and some of them still nomadize in the west of today's Afghan capital Kabul.
