The coin is dedicated to Leo D.Landau (1908 – 1968), an outstanding physicist-theorist,
the Nobel Prize laureate (1962), who made significant contribution to almost
all fields of theoretical physics.
He was the author of the classic work on diamagnetism of free electrons, theory of liquid
helium superfluidity and many others. In the city of Kharkiv Leo D.Landau lead a theoretical
department
of the Ukrainian institute for Physics and Engineering,
at the same time he headed chairs of theoretical
physics in the Kharkiv Institute for Engineering and Mechanics and in the Kharkiv
university,
having established an advanced school of the Soviet theoretical physics.
