    The history of electrifying Braila begins at the end of the 19th century, a remarkable period of economic development for the city by the Danube. In 1880 the PIF CTE Cement Factory (720kW) takes place, and in 1883 the Electric Lighting Company sets its headquarters in Braila, with Belgian capital. In 1900 the first electric
    tramways
    function, and in 1905 the first electric bulbs are turned on in the public lighting network. We also remind in 1930 PIF the first 30 MW group in CTE Braila and in the period 1974-1979 PIF 220kV and 400kV centers Lacu Sarat.
    The electricity distribution company on Braila county territory undergoes many transformations in time: 1948 – The Electricity Regional Company Galati including The Electric Works of Braila, 1949 –The Electric Networks Sector functions in Braila, under the Galati company as well, 1968 – The Electric Networks Enterprise is founded in Galati, with an Electricity Supply and Distribution Section in Braila, and in 1983 IRE (The Electric Networks Enterprise) Braila is founded , an independent county enterprise, which nevertheless could not administer the 110 kV – 400 kv networks in the area. There transformations continued with the appearance of RENEL in 1990, turned into CONEL in 1998, and in Braila the Distribution Branch under SC ELECTRICA SA. Further to the application of the Romanian Government Decree 1342/2001, in 2002, the FDFEE Electrica Muntenia Nord SA was founded, with six centers, one of them being SDFEE Braila.
    The center is carrying out its activity on the Braila County territory (4766 sq. km), located in the southeast of Romania, having in its structure one city and three towns. Braila is an agricultural county, this having a strong impact on the electricity consume due to the massive functioning of the irrigation networks during the spring – summer months. At present great efforts are being made for the economic re-launching of the county, looking for opportunities meant to create the premises of a long-lasting development on all the plans of the economic and social life.
    SDFEE Braila is carrying out the following basic activities:
    - electricity distribution;
    - electricity supply – electricity purchase, electricity administration, tariff policies, contracting delivered electricity, measuring and invoicing electricity, relations with the clients
    -connecting the new electricity consumers to the center’s distribution network;
    Its policy is oriented towards satisfying the clients’ needs, under maximum security and quality conditions of the electricity supply and distribution service.
    SDFEE Braila gestioneaza pe teritoriul judetului Braila un numar important de instalatii electroenergetice:
    Linii electrice aeriene 110kV 499 km
    Linii de medie tensiune (aeriene si subterane) 3180 km
    Linii de joasa tensiune (aeriene si subterane) 2280 km
    Statii de transformare 110kV/medie tensiune 25 buc./1066 MVA
    Statii de transformare medie tens./medie tens. 53 buc./211,1 MVA

    Aerial electric lines of low tension 1747.000 km
    Subterraneous electric lines of low tension 532.000 km
    Transformation centers 110kV/medium tension 25 pcs./1066 MVA
    Transformation centers medium tens./medium tens 53 pcs./211.1 MVA
    Transformation stations, transformation units 2121 pcs./788.933 MVA
    The number of clients has grown constantly, at present SDFEE Braila supplying electricity to a number of 139,674 clients, of which 8,445 industrial clients and 131,229 households.
    The electricity sales have also seen a permanent growth, both for each category of consumers and for each tension level. In 2002, 491,727 MWh were sold, the greatest growth for a category of consumers being that of the irrigations, 15,000MWh.
    SDFEE Braila considers that its most important capital is the staff, those who perform the center’s various activities with great responsibility.
    The energeticians in Braila know that their activity has a strong social impact, which they have to do their best in order to efficiently do their duties and improve every day the quality of the service they are supplying. These values have been and will be in their consciousness so that the light should last in the houses and souls of the people from Braila.
