In 1923, Francis Delbeke begin a career in finance with Banque commerciale de Belgique continuer Bank Hauptmann.
Following the liquidation of the Banque commerciale de Belgique, in 1926 he took over from his father as director of the Belgian Fund Mortgage. It is also found as a director of many other financial companies.
But, writes Valerie Montens, "Businessman as his father or his brother Charles, the true passion of Francis Delbeke is really art."
The art lover and patron [edit]
Amateur painter, he had built a large private collection.
He was friends with the Futurist painter of German origin Antwerp Jules Schmalzigaug who painted a portrait of Francis Delbeke Cubist portrait which is now well known to visitors to the Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels.
He encouraged the pictorial life by becoming a member of Antwerp Management Board of the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp and the Museum Mayer van den Bergh.

En 1923, Francis Delbeke commence une carrière financière auprès de la Banque commerciale de Belgique continuatrice de la Banque Hauptmann.
Suite à la liquidation de la Banque commerciale de Belgique, il prend en 1926 la succession de son père comme administrateur de la Caisse hypothécaire belge. On le retrouve également comme administrateur d’une multitude d’autres sociétés financières.
Mais, comme l’écrit Valérie Montens, « Homme d’affaires comme son père ou son frère Charles, la véritable passion de Francis Delbeke est en réalité l’art ».
L’amateur d’art et le mécène [modifier]
Amateur de peinture, il s’était constitué une importante collection privée.
Il était lié d’amitié avec le peintre futuriste anversois d’origine allemande Jules Schmalzigaug qui peignit un portrait cubiste de Francis Delbeke, portrait qui est désormais bien connu des visiteurs du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles.
Il encouragea la vie picturale anversoise en devenant membre du conseil d’administration du Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Anvers et du Musée Mayer Van den Bergh.
