Dedicated to the Ukrainian historian, Slavist, linguist, orientalist, writer, translator, one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and one of the first academicians – Agatangel Efimovich Krymsky. Fluent in almost sixty languages, mainly oriental, and also knowing all the dialectal features of the Ukrainian language, he made a significant contribution to Ukrainian oriental studies and Ukrainian studies. The uniqueness of A. Krymsky as a phenomenon in world culture was noted by the decision of the UNESCO General Assembly to include this outstanding personality in the list of outstanding figures of humanity.
On the obverse of the coin there are: at the top – the small State Emblem of Ukraine, to the right of which there are inscriptions: УКРАЇНА / 2 ГРИВНІ / 2021; a composition symbolizing the activity of an orientalist and a source of knowledge – geometric decor from open books, consisting of a multi-ray star, in the center of which are the words of A. Krymsky Я ЗРОЗУМІВ,/ ЩО МУШУ БУТИ/ УКРАЇНОФІЛОМ –/ ЦЕ Я ЗРОЗУМІВ/ ЦІЛКОМ СВІДОМО; under the quotation – facsimile A Crimean; logo of the Banknote-Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (bottom right).
On the reverse of the coin against the background of vertical lines, they bring a certain drama and symbolize the tragic fate of the scientist, a portrait of Agafangel Krymsky is depicted, the inscriptions are diagonally placed under the portrait: АГАТАНГЕЛ (left), КРИМСЬКИЙ (right) below the years of his life – 1871-1942.
