The coin is dedicated to a Ukrainian folk musical instrument made in a form of conical barrel (wooden cylinder). At one end a sheep membrane is stretched with a hole in this skin`s center. Through this hole a tuft of horse hair with a knot at one end is passed. Pulling of the horsehair makes a sound similar to the bull roar or bittern boom. This bass instrument is used by folk instrument groups to create funny effects.
Obverse is a relief surface imitating sound waves presented in a form of conventionalized floral baroque patterns. The following conventionalized inscriptions can be seen: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) (above), under which to the left - the Small National Emblem of Ukraine, 2007/ 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (2007/ 5 Hryvnia) (below) and the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
On the coin reverse there is On the reverse there is a depiction of the musical instrument, around the coin circumference - a baroque pattern and the conventionalized inscription: БУГАЙ (Buhai).
