Description

1941 WWII German 1000 Reichsmark Gebruder Stumm Bond
Offered for your consideration is a WWII German 1000 Reichsmark bond issued by Gebrüder Stumm, a large steel manufacturer for Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich. The bond is dated December, 1941, and was issued in Neunkirchen-Saar, though a section at the bottom seems to indicate that the bond was secured by the Deutsche Bank in Berlin. The principal instrument is enclosed in a rectangular border, formed of geometric designs and executed in blue and black ink. A lighter blue security printing dominates the center, with the financial obligation printed in black ink atop. As part of the obligation it appears that a total of 20,000 examples of this denomination bond were issued. Two additional pages follow, presumably describing out the terms of the bond (the entire bond is printed in German, which the cataloguer is unable to read). The final page is divided into five sections, probably for the recording of interest payments (the currently offered specimen bears one signature but no amount). While state issued bonds from Nazi led Germany are fairly common, those from individual companies are much less frequently encountered. Given the importance of the product supplied by this concern, this bond should elicit spirited bidding. An interesting and historic reminder of troubled and turbulent time.
Very light toning is present across the entire surface, though this in no way detracts from the overall eye appeal of the document. A significant diagonal fold can be seen in the upper left corner, with smaller bends noted at each of the remaining corners. A small cancellation hole pierces the embossed seal at the lower left, presumably caused when the bond was redeemed or sometime after the war (since the company remained in operation after the war it is possible that they continued to honor these bonds). This piece measures approximately 8.25 x 11.75 inches and would look great framed with an image of the factory during the war. There will be .95 for postage and insurance on this item Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
